It's Garbage Day

42.3 degrees at 6:00 a.m.

The Weather Forecast from WKTV: "Despite the cool start, it will be another pleasant afternoon.  Plenty of sunshine to start the work week with highs in the low 70s.
A warm front tonight will bring clouds and the risk for a shower or thunderstorm by daybreak.
Summer returns on Tuesday with humid conditions and highs in the mid 80s. There is a chance for thunderstorms during the afternoon both Tuesday and Wednesday.
Cooler weather returns on Friday and Saturday, with highs in the 60s."

"Bridge is such a sensational game that I wouldn't mind being in jail if I had three cellmates who were decent players and who were willing to keep the game going 24 hours a day.

"Playing bridge reflects intelligence. It's one of the really great pleasures of life. Anybody who's missing bridge is missing so much in life.

What is this?

Mabel Bushee brought this device, patented on November 9, 1909, to last Friday's gathering of "Old Timers" at the Library.

Whatever it is, it is an oval about 4" x 3".

The spring coil is removable  .....

...........  and the hook-like things swivel up or down.

Please send your answers or best guesses to

Here & There

For the first time is months, Barton Avenue is smo-o-o-o-th!

Part of one lane on White Street has been resurfaced ....

.............. and the very rough spot at the White Street rail crossing is now only a little bit bumpy.

Yesterday was one of those afternoons that called people outdoors
and a dozen or more were fishing at Chittening Pond.

By late afternon there were only a few golfers out on the greens at "Bart's" in Sangerfield, but the parking lot at the clubhouse was filling up!

The tavern previously known as "Stinkers,"  on West Main Street, has been renamed "The Good Times Bar & Grill."

*******

The afternoon sun shone almost too brightly on the huge Hop Vines at the Tanners' barn west of Sangerfield.

The hops at the Forward Farm on Water Street have been harvested. While not as modern as the "lift" that was used at the Mosher Farm, a week or so ago, this ingenious vehicle helped pickers get the job done!
