It's Garbage Day.

34.3 degrees at 5:20 a.m.

The Weather Forecast from YNN:
"Rain and Wet Snow Showers Today
Remaining Unsettled Through the Rest of the Week

"Today we are dealing with an area of low pressure bringing scattered rain and wet snow showers. These stay in the forecast right through Thursday with temperatures topping out in the upper 30s. As this system pulls away, a colder air mass looks to filter in toward the tail end of the week and into the weekend with highs only in the 20s both Saturday and Sunday. There will also be some lake effect setting up which should gradually taper heading into the early part of next week."

It was a good thing that the DPW spent Monday removing snowbanks from along Main Street because, had they not, yesterday morning's mixture of snow, sleet and rain would have made an even greater layer of concrete-like accumulation.

They began the process all over again, yesterday morning: the "Bobcat" scoops, loads the truck which then heads down Route 315 to "the old dump"  where the snow can melt at its own speed without inconveniencing anyone.

If you wonder why I bother showing pictures of scenes all too familiar to those of us who live here, it is because:

1. There are other villages - or states - where such a practice is not in municipal budgets, and the folks who live there are curious and also very envious.
2. Seeing this sort of photograph makes people sojourning in southern states very happy, for some reason or other!

Old-timers have always looked for golden twigs on willows as a sign of Spring.

Last year, at this time, I'd been in St. Elizabeth's Hospital for nearly 2 weeks and had moved to Harding Nursing Home for a whole batch of "rehab," and so I have no photographs to choose from. I don't think that any snowfall in 2012 came close to this!

A couple of weeks ago I asked you to "save April 3" for a Special Event, but I've just been advised by the organizers that everyone should "UNsave" that date.  Clarification and a new "save" date will follow - sometime soon,  I think.
