It's 35 degrees and overcast at 9:30.
The WKTV Weather Forecast: "A low pressure system will bring a round of rain and snow to the area this afternoon and evening. Precipitation starts in the early afternoon as rain, with temperatures climbing into the upper 30s. Cold pockets north and east of Utica, along with hilltops, will likely see a slushy inch or two of snow throughout the course of the afternoon. Lake effect snow to follow after the storm crosses the area. Snow falls heavy along the Tug Hill late tonight through early tomorrow. Lake effect snow falls north of the valley through tomorrow afternoon. The band will shift south tomorrow evening and overnight, bringing accumulating snow to the valley.
A chilly Thursday, followed by a moderation in temperatures into the weekend.

"Vacation," for me, means staying up as late as I want to and not rushing to read the news and begin typing first thing in the morning. Today I found this notice on Facebook and decided that it (along with the special Car Wash announcements) called for a rapid blog post:
(Under the WAVAC Heading)
Volunteers highly needed!
Our organization serves the areas of Waterville, Sangerfield, North Brookfield, and parts of the Town of Marshall.
We currently have a shortage of volunteers and need your help.
No experience necessary, just an eagerness to help the community!
Please consider joining our organization, and helping serve your community to make it a better place. We are looking for area residents who can respond to emergencies as a driver and help transport our fellow neighbors to the hospital when in need. No medical experience or training is required (just a clean drivers license). You can even volunteer while at home; we provide pagers and radios to notify you if there is an emergency.
The ambulance is a service that no one hopes to have to use, but we find very thankful when it comes to our rescue in a time of need. Please consider donating some of your time as a volunteer of our organization. Check out our website at www.watervilleambulance.org for an application or just stop in and see all of the renovations we have recently made to our headquarters. We want you to feel comfortable!

The local scenery hasn't changed much in the past few days.
A brief snow squall that obliterated the background in this view of the snowmobile trail near Sangerfield held some promise, but ....
........... much of the countryside remains bare. This is the view from West Hill looking East. I think those are the silos of the Landis Farm on Shanley Road, just to the right of center.

IN THE MAIL
The travelling Toulouse Goose
His first stop was at George and Connie Kelley's, then he spent a few days at the Tilbes' Menagerie Farm, and now ....

While I only took a few dull-colored pictures, Jody Hildreth and his camera have been on several photo jaunts:
First, he revisited the caves in Forge Hollow. He had to hack a hole in the ice (center) to squeeze in and then climb upwards through a waterfall to reach the larger "room" which he says could probably hold three people, 'though none could stand upright.
Icy stalagmites ......
........... and bright green moss.
He and his daughter, Tessa, then went on an evening outing to find this perfect sunset.
Yesterday he was at Tinker Falls, near the Labrador Mountain Ski Area.
The waterfall was not completely frozen, as he might have wished, but that made it possible for him to climb behind the falls to take these pictures.
(Thanks so much for sharing those with us, Jody!)

Also in the Mail, this announcement from Lawrence Gilley.
"The (Next) Great Emergence"
Lenten study at Three Steeples Church, Paris
"Have you noticed that things in the church and in the world are shifting in ways that are confusing, a little scary and seemingly beyond anyone’s control? Could the explanation be that we are in the midst of an historic upheaval, something that has happened about every 500 years throughout all of history?
"For the next six Wednesday evenings, we will gather in Paris for soup, salad and bread at 6 PM, followed by a video presentation and discussion with Phyllis Tickle. She offers a straightforward, fresh perspective, which is guaranteed to be both provocative and comforting. Don’t miss this!"
