It's Recycling Day

18 degrees at 6:45 a.m.

Lake Effect Snow Continues - from YNN:

"It will be a cold day with continued lake effect flurries and snow showers. We could see a couple inches picked up through the day across the Finger Lakes. Most areas see clouds and some sun with highs in the 20s. We see flurries and snow showers taper a bit and some clearing allows for temperatures to drop down into the teens and single digits overnight.

Lake effect remains in the forecast for the rest of the week

Quiet weather builds in for the weekend and will likely stick around into early next week.  Temperatures will also improve with highs in the lower 30s.  Temperatures could peak closer to 40 by Tuesday!"

And here's an event to put on your calendar, right now:

IN THE MAIL
from Doris Stephan:

JANUARY 23RD
"Another novel to film for the Waterville Book Discussion Group."

Starring Meryl Streep and Robert Redford
in the Academy Award winning film, Out of Africa.

“This film is a feast for the eyes and ears.  The pairing of John Barry’s lush score with David Watkin’s poetic cinematogaraphy is worth the price of admission.”

And, admission is free.....bring your lunch to the meeting room at the Wateville Public library on Wed. Jan 23rd, at noon.
Coffee, tea and dessert is served while we enjoy the movie.

Call the Library at 841 4651 to reserve a copy of the book."

Also in the morning mail,

these photographs of snowy Paris Green in front of Three Steeples Church on Sunday morning, sent to me by Diane Bancroft.

.... and.....

........ this great photograph of the Homecoming of the"USS Dwight D. Eisenhower" and her son, Scott, who, she writes, "will arrive home in Waterville this Friday on leave for the family Christmas celebrations.  He can’t wait to ride our snowmobile, after being in extreme heat and sand for the past few months!!

(Thank you, Diane!)

New Year's afternoon "Ride-around."

Everything was very quiet, very peaceful, and it was pleasant knowing that even the really "side" roads had been plowed and sanded.

But you could tell it was cold, just by looking at the sky ......

............... and the newly-formed icicles at "the caves" in Forge Hollow proved it.

Icicles, although they look fine at the caves, are not the most desirable decoration on houses ....

... but as long as they're there, we may as well admire them!

They're especially pretty when the sun is shining on them.

Main Street was completely deserted, yesterday afternoon.

The same afternoon sun that made icicles sparkle shone like a spotlight on the architectural details:

...  longer-lasting decorations applied by master masons and carpenters of the 19th century.
