It's Garbage Day

Six years ago, I found a bright red pansy blooming in my front yard and, in the afternoon, took a picture of runners in summer gear!

This morning, however, it's a different story:  in Utica it's -8 degrees; Syracuse is "up" to +3 and, here in the Hollow, it's a steamy 5 degrees above zero!

YNN's morning weather forecast: "Still a few snow showers and flurries mainly south of Lake Ontario which should wind down through the morning. A bit of high pressure moves in today giving us fairly quiet and cold conditions today before a new disturbance working through late today fires up the lakes again for tonight and tomorrow.
Quiet weather builds in on Saturday with highs in the lower 30s.   Scattered snow showers will be back into the forecast on Sunday with highs around 30 degrees.   Temperatures will continue to warm heading into next week with highs in the lower 40s by Wednesday."

It was just wintery enough to snow, but not cold enough to keep newlyweds Kelly Cochran and Dan Nichols, who were married last Saturday at St. Bernard's Church, from stopping at the Bandstand  after the ceremony to pose for Lisa Miller of Studio de Luce .

My thanks to Jennifer Nichols Neff, sister of the groom, who sent me the picture.

Connie Bocko sent these two photographs that she took on New Year's Day when she, Dave, and the Gilberts celebrated with a cross-country ski in State Lands.

(Thanks, Connie!)

Whether you like to be right out playing in the snow or are more inclined to stay indoors, you can still see many more pictures of the unique crystals and learn how they're made. Go to SnowCrystals.comhttp://www.its.caltech.edu/~atomic/snowcrystals/photos/photos.htm.

By late yesterday afternoon, enough of those delicate little flakes had fallen and been rearranged by the wind to nearly cover one of Dave Sullivan's stone walls at the top of Grant Hill.

For those who think that I'm either ailing or have become antisocial, the real reason you may not see me out and about is that I am gleefully playing with some of my new Christmas present "toys!"

First, I hook up this little ROKU box to a TV set - it's easy; select Hulu+ (or Netflix) and then watch any and every movie or show that I want to. (I'm partial to British productions.)

And while I'm watching with one eye, I'm scanning, scanning, scanning old photos, newspaper clippings and favorite book illustrations with my new "Magic Wand" and stashing them in folders in my computer to save for -  whatever.

(Me, standing on a stone wall that was built by my great-grandfather right after the Civil War.)
