It's Recyclable Collection Day.

33 degrees and dry at 5:30 a.m.

The Weather Forecast from YNN: "Wednesday is shaping up to be a breezy and chilly day with a few spotty flurries/snow showers around. There may even be some light rain trying to mix in as temperatures climb into the upper 30s.

Lake enhanced snow showers get going Wednesday night into Thursday and it will be colder with highs only in the upper 20s which is about 15 degrees below average. Lake snow should taper heading into Friday but there looks to be a clipper type system that moves in Saturday.

At this point, no big warm ups are expected in the near future. In fact, temperatures right through the weekend and into next week are forecast to stay below average."

This was what Tuesday was like.

By early afternoon, "Big Creek" was creeping close to Route 315 at the usual place just south of Forge Hollow.

The Sangerfield River was well over its banks but still a ways from road level on Loomis Road.

The scene at the beaver works on VanHyning Road was something else, though, and it reminded me of this wonderful "Snoopy" cartoon!

The only creatures thoroughly delighted with the rain must have been these geese. Here, next to Osborn Avenue, they've found their pond.

On Sunday afternoon, on my usual tour of the village, I drove past the Memorial Park School. The parking lot was FULL! Not knowing why or what was going on, I asked Sheri Brennan, who replied that "It was a Biddy Basketball Tournament!" ( At least I knew what Biddy Ball was and that it is sponsored by the Brothertown Optimists.)

Coincidentally, in yesterday's Email was an open letter to the community from Dan Ford, President of the Brothertown Optimist Club. I'm pleased to publish it here!

"March into Optimism.

As president of this year’s Brothertown Optimist I would like to invite you to attend one of our meetings.  We are an active and strong club that supports our youth through academics, sports, and in many other ways.
You will see our members organizing Biddy Basketball, The Optimist Oratorical Contest and Essay Contest and recognizing our 12th grade students through our Youth of the Month program.
Our community is home to a lot of individuals who would be wonderful members of our service organization.  I invite you to join us at one of our upcoming meetings which take place on the 1st Wednesday of the month at the Waterville Village Hall.
If you have wanted to be part of a meaningful community group and perhaps would like to know more about ours I ask you to consider the Brothertown Optimist Club.  Our youth will thank you and our club and community will thank you.
If you are interested see any optimist member or call me at 315-853-5634.
                                                                                                                                                                 Thank you,
Dan Ford, President

FOR THE RECORD

It's the "20th Anniversary of the Blizzard of '93."
 - from WKTV.

There was a fairly big storm in 1888, too. In "Grandfather Camp's" diary was written:  "Last night was as bad as I ever knew. Snowed all of the time yesterday, and has kept up all the time today. Five below zero this morning. Not a team in sight. It would not be possible to go on any roads around here. Snow five and a half feet deep."  From an article written by Dorothy McConnell for The Waterville Times in March, 1993.

    Have a great day, everyone!
