It's BIG TRASH Day

27 degrees at 5:00 a.m.

The Weather Forecast from YNN:

"Warmer Finish to Week

"For today any flurries and snow showers will taper off during the morning, and we will see some clearing in the afternoon. It will be warmer as well with highs in the middle 30s.

Things will get active for the middle of the week, as a new storm system brushes by to the south. With it, there will be some extra cloud cover and a few snow showers - the main area of snow will stay in Pennsylvania.

Conditions will improve further for the end of the work week with highs in the 40s by Friday."

IN THE NEWS

- from the Utica Observer-Dispatch.

- from the Mid-York Weekly.

At Joan Albert's, on East Bacon Street.

(That was the first picture that I took, yesterday afternoon, and in turning off my camera I apparently placed a large, blurry thumbprint smack-dab on the center of the lens!  Of course I didn't know that until an hour and a dozen or so snaps later .....  !)

Fortunately, Jeff Reynolds had his iPhone with him at the Observatory, Sunday, and has sent me these pictures and accompanying description.

It was just like Christmas!

............ when Stan Lopata and Dan Szabo unwrapped the Mohawk Valley Astronomical Society's brand new
12 in. Astro Tech Ritchey-Chretien
"astrographic reflecting telescope"

"The ultimate for distortion free digital photography!"

Don Yacco, Stan and Dan tune up the new mount in the Observatory's "warm room."
(Soon to be mounted permanently on the second massive pier in the Telescope Room.)

  The 12” Astro-Tech AT12RC Ritchey-Chrétien astrograph is a large aperture true Ritchey-Chrétien astrograph, an astro-imager’s dream, a "Sky & Telescope Hot Product for 2011."

N.B.  This and all other equipment in the Observatory is funded and maintained by MVAS.

FOR THE RECORD

Although I check the "stats" for this blog fairly often, it had not occurred to me until a few days ago to do the same for my blog called "Heaps of History."

I was amazed!

Last week's "hits."

Have a grand day, everyone - wherever you are!

1:30 p.m. This image is an experiment:  it's a huge newspaper article, and I want to see if it can be displayed as a jpeg and actually enlarged enough to read.

Yes, by golly, it can - IF you know how to enlarge images on your own monitors!  (i.e. - hit command and + at the same time.)

If not, shoot me a note and I'll send you the PDF.

- and thanks to "Rusty" for sending it to me in the first place!
