"Breezy & Mild, Showers Return
We'll see clouds and some sun today and with a southerly breeze, temperatures are expected to climb into the upper 50s to near 60.
This relatively mild air mass won't be around for long though. A cold front will impact us Thursday providing widely scattered showers through the first half of the day.
In the wake of this front, it looks to become chilly with some lake effect rain and snow."

Here & There
The weather was beautiful, yesterday, and a great boon to the crew working on the masonry at St. Bernard's Catholic Church where stacks of brand new bricks, perfect matches for the those on the building, wait to be used to face the new construction.
Down at the corner of Stafford Avenue and East Main Street, a crew was shingling part of the third-story roof of the historic Swanberg Home.
Rows of leaves that had been raked by property-owners to the edge of the "terrace" (or tree belt) on Putnam Street were easily scooped up by the Village's super-vac.
In the sidewalk showroom display at Morgan's Hardware there are more rakes, a barbeque, summer chairs and .....
what's that thing? ............... a snow blower?

When I drove through Clinton on Monday afternoon Christmas decorations were being hung, but I was so shocked that I didn't even think of taking a picture. I went back yesterday to make sure I hadn't been "seeing things," but no - they're there.
Almost as bad - yesterday I spotted a sequined Santa Clause hat hanging on the door of China Café, here in Waterville!

It's still hard to get used to seeing the big parking lot and the old Food King grocery store completely empty, but the word is that CVS, which has been located on Sanger Avenue near the Village Limits for several years, will soon be taking over that space.
(That, of course, will leave CVS building empty: a fine opportunity for a new business. What do blog readers suggest?)

FOR THE RECORD
I received quite a number of responses to the query I posted regarding the future or fate of the old oak tree on Babbott Avenue - the one that has lifted up several sections of sidewalk and marked with an ominous "X" - for axe, I presume - and all were in favor of laying some new sidewalk and saving the tree. So ...... I spoke with Mayor Gene Ostrander on Monday afternoon. He told me that Mr. Mark Mowrey, a forestry and tree expert, thinks he has a solution that villagers (and the oak) will be happy with.
