Green Waste Collection
It's 34 degrees and quiet at 5:00 a.m.

YNN's Weather Forecast:

"Chilly & Breezy, Dry Weather Till Friday
Early flurries are expected to gradually taper this morning but it is going to be chilly and a west/northwesterly breeze should add an extra bite to the air. Temperatures will only be able to top out in the upper 30s and low 40s.
High pressure looks to keep our weather quiet Wednesday and Thursday with temperatures returning to more seasonable levels for the second half of the week. "

R.I.P.

Sadly, word has been received by several villagers of the death of
Ronald "Ron" Curtis
at his home in North Carolina  following a long illness.

He was a member of the WCS Class of 1956 and has many relatives and friends in the Waterville area.

When a formal obituary becomes available I will post a link.

Here & There

Sunday night's wind storm felled another of the tall old fir trees in the St. Bernard's Cemetery and an old maple a bit farther out on Sanger Hill Road in front of the Parkwood Farm.

The plastic "warming house" covering new masonry at St. Bernard's church on Stafford Avenue has been moved - presumably by the masons and not the wind - in order to keep fresh mortar from cooling too fast.

There was little danger of anything freezing, yesterday.  By mid-afternoon the temperature was in the high fifties - perfect for hanging outdoor decorations!

I'm sorry that there are so few pictures in today's blog post: it's not that I didn't try to find more things to photograph!  The one scene of which I could have taken scores of shots was "off limits," socially.
I was driving along the Solsville - Augusta Road when I saw a "School Ahead" caution sign.  Curious, I slowed down and yes --- there was the school. A small white building on a little hill, and out in the schoolyard there were twenty or more Amish children playing what could have been something like soccer or softball. All dressed in traditional outfits, they were running this way and that, shrieking and laughing, making the prettiest scene.  But I know that they do not want to be photographed and in fact I felt like an intruder just watching, so I moved on.  I will, however, keep those happy images in my head for a long time.
