It's BIG TRASH Day
34 degrees and there is no precipitation at 6:30 a.m.

The Weather Forecast from YNN:

"Breaks of Sun/Quiet, Milder Midweek

Isolated flurries and sprinkles possible today, that threat is expected to diminish as the day progresses and temperatures will be seasonable with highs in the upper 30s and low 40s.

Wednesday we'll turn our attention to a warm front which will help boost temperatures into the upper 40s both Wednesday and Thursday. However, this milder air mass will be accompanied by a few scattered rain/wet snow showers. Looking ahead to the weekend, it seems as though we are really going to cool things down with highs returning to the 30s."

N.B.   Jack Brouillette, who initiated this event, said that: "In addition, we plan to have a 'sit down' area in which patrons can visit and socialize." and he asked if I knew of any organizations that would like to offer hot beverages as a fund raiser. (I don't - but perhaps some blog readers do.)

Yesterday's Photos

First stop - Merri-Rose Florist on West Main Street.

Owner Diane Cornish took one look at me and my camera and said, "But I don't have anything, yet!"

There was, however, an enormous table covered with a blanket of Poinsettas .....

........... and, inside the front window, a beautiful selection of more potted plants and dish gardens! I thought that the displays gave new meaning to not having "anything" and I've
promised to return in a day or two when she has "something!"

******

Next - to East Main Street and John Lincoln-Lovely's "Sticks 'n Stones" which, even seen from the street .............

................ or peering through the front window, makes me think that I've suddenly been transported to Diagon Alley of "Harry Potter" fame.

The tiny shop is filled with glittering cases of crystals and stones appealing to collectors .....

............ and to those who prefer to use them as ornamentation, instead. From the ceiling hang more tiny lights and all manner of "Dream Catcher - type" decorations. I think that the word to describe the whole shop would be "eclectic" - and that goes for conversation, too, yesterday's being focused on the loss of Comet Ison.

The "Sticks?"  That would be incense  - aromas for every mood, and you'll carry a warm hint of at least one when you go back out into the cold.

Elsewhere.  It was the "angel" that caught my eye and then I saw the sign and thought that you should see it, too!

Four snugly-scarved snowmen had grown on the front lawn of this Sanger Avenue residence .......

... and a beautifully-coifed "Irish Dancer" appeared recently at the Brouillettes' home on Barton Avenue.

It's well-worth the ride east of the Village to see the decorations at Marilyn and Dan Maine's home on McCabe Road.  I noticed that flood lights are in place on the lawn and imagine that the scene is even more elegant after dark. (I'll go back!)

While there are many lighting displays that are beautiful to look at, the one at the Verdons on Putnam Street is the only one that I'm aware of that is also entertaining

For several years the very computer-savvy family has created a digitized musical - visual displays, perfectly synchronized so that lights and music perform in flawless precision.  I spent a good ten minutes parked across from the home yesterday afternoon around 5 o'clock enjoying the performance.
As in past years, a sign asks you to tune your car radio to FM 87.9.  I've done this before, but yesterday I was delighted all over again:  there are several new musical selections and exciting new lighting effects.  It's the sort of thing that makes me wonder, "How did they do that?" and "How long did that take!"

Thank you, Verdon Family, for the delightful treat!
